At DK Building we enjoy creating garden rooms for our customers.  It can be a versatile, functional construction built in your garden providing a wide range of purposes such as a home office, art studio, guest room, or leisure space.  Our customers are looking to create a bright, open atmosphere with a connection to natural surroundings, plus enhance the aesthetic appeal of a garden and increase property value.

We love it so much Daniel has started his own exciting Garden Space project at his recently purchased property in Liverpool where we are retrofitting a traditional 1930s semi-detached house to Passivhaus standard.

Given the detailed process in the main house, building a garden room made a lot of sense to give Daniel and Zaneta a place to live.  They are able to concentrate on the main house renovation, without the additional costs of paying rent somewhere else and most importantly they stopped worrying about the logistics when completely renovating a house. Once the main home renovation is complete, the garden building can be used as an office, guest house, man/woman cave. The garden room itself was built in 1.5 months, “our only regret is that we didn’t come up with the idea earlier, right after we bought the house.”

We can help you make use of your outdoor space while creating additional living or working areas that suit your needs and lifestyle. Whether you want to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, create a dedicated space for your hobbies, or even extend your living space, a garden room can provide a unique solution.

What do I need to consider when embarking on creating a Garden Room?

Creating your dream garden room involves careful planning and consideration. Here are some key things to keep in mind:

Design and Space: A garden room doesn’t have to be a standard design or shape. Get creative with your ideas to make the most of the available space and create a structure that meets your specific needs. Whether you want a contemporary style or a more rustic charm, the design should complement your property and surroundings.

Planning Permission: In many cases, garden rooms fall under the category of “permitted development” and do not require planning permission. However, it’s important to ensure that your garden room complies with local regulations. Daniel, a planning expert, can provide you with in-depth advice to ensure your project is within the guidelines.

Building Materials: Consider materials that offer excellent insulation, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Double glazing, underfloor heating, and high-quality wood or composite materials can ensure your garden room is both functional and long-lasting.

Functionality: Make sure the design suits the purpose you intend for the room. For example, a garden office needs to be ergonomic and efficient, while a garden playhouse should be child-friendly and safe.

Accessibility and Location: Choose a location in your garden that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Think about how you will access the space and whether it will be easy to install utilities like electricity, water, or internet.

Budget: While garden rooms offer great value compared to extending or moving house, it’s essential to have a clear budget. Factor in the costs for design, materials, and installation.

Conclusion

A garden room can transform your outdoor space into a functional, comfortable, and unique area that meets your specific needs. Whether you want a quiet space to work, a place to exercise, or a social hub for your family, a garden room can provide it all. With thoughtful design, attention to detail, and a touch of creativity, you can create a garden room that blends beautifully into its surroundings, complements your home, and provides a safe, peaceful environment for relaxation, productivity, or play.

By carefully considering the design, planning permissions, and functionality of your garden room, you can turn your dream into reality and make the most of your garden space for all-year-round use.
